What do you have more of available. Time or money. That was the problem that i was facing yesterday and this past Sunday.
You might wonder what life changing decision had to be made. What crisis caused this dilemma?
Well in my old house, not the this old house show, no in my circa 1920 row house I think I still have the original plumbing. The faucet in the bathtub was dripping. Worse thing it was dripping hot water. Plumbing repair is a real judgement call for me. Pay the plumber or try it myself. Money or time. I choose the cheapo option this time which means my time.
The issue is the job appears to be so simple that it should only take a few minutes. My first try on Sunday appeared to have fixed the problem. But than that drip started up one more time. It was so bad I had to turn on a fan to create some white noise so I could sleep on Monday night.
So for my second go on the repair it was decision time, do I hire a plumbing company or try again. Well since I’ve had to fix the same drip every year for the last ten years I took another shot at it.
So the beveled washer, not the flat one-Sunday’s issue, has been replaced. I used a ton of that plumbers white tape to fix the old copper connection. I think its time that I start saving all those plumbing marketing things that I receive. next time I might just make the call or do an internet search and find myself a real pro. I won’t get back those 5 hours that I wasted on going to the store and repairing the drip but I won’t lose another five.
