The folks at Apple are trying to kill me. My super old school Mac G3 is about to retire. Its funny because it does not even have a USB port and I went into a Mac dealer to look for a keyboard and the saleperson had no clue about Apple old ABD system.
So I was in the store and crap they had lowered the price on the new iMacs one more time. Besides the look which everyone loves, including the wife which is pretty damn important in this approval process, the performance is awesome.
I’m not just taking about productivity since the major Adobe products have not benefitted from the new Apple/Intel chip.
No its the really important, crucial decision making issues like the performance of the mac games which are really rocking. Yes I know thats not what you should basing a purchase decision on but the reality of the computer world is that games not programs really drive CPU development. Hardcore game players keep pushing the chip and hard drive makers for more performance.
Macs have long suffered from a lack of good games. Non-Apple loves used to carve on me all the time about the one or two games that you could play on a machine. I remember when Myst came out on the Mac it was huge mostly because of the void of rpg games on the Apple platform.
Now you have access to plenty of games and plus if you really want you just switch over the processor/software on your new Mac. Lets say you find some super soccer games that don’t run a Mac. Those Euro software developers seem to avoid the whole Mac base. Well now if you really had to you could run that game on your new Intel processor mac. It kind of defeats the purpose of buying a Mac in the first place but its nice to know that you have that option now.
